I don't think the medical procedure would be evil on its own. The sin would be in its cost. "...genetic or surgical human enhancement at the expense of what?" Once human dignity or the sanctity of human life begins being encroached upon for the sake of these enhancements, they become evil.
Isn't there an encyclical forbidding the cloning of babies without brains and/ or central nervous systems to facilitate the use of organs and body parts?
